Clarity: The Starting Point for Success

The first step towards a better business and an improved quality of life is CLARITY.

  • Clarity about what you want

  • Clarity about your goals

  • Clarity about what needs to be done to accomplish those goals

  • Clarity about any obstacles in the way

  • Clarity about your own strengths and weaknesses

  • Clarity about your numbers

When I work with my clients, they often lack clarity in one or more of those critical areas. As a coach, I help my clients develop clarity using these 3 steps.

1. Set clear, measurable goals – based on what YOU want

Your journey to clarity always begins here: “What do you want? What is a good quality of life for YOU?”

The tool I use for this is called a Life Success Plan. A Life Success Plan is a deep dive into what matters to YOU.

It covers all parts of your life: your health, your family, your career, your finances, your personal development, your community, and your social life. During this process, we get clear not only about WHAT you want but also about WHY you want it. We uncover your core beliefs, your core values, your personal mission, and your vision.

Having this clear picture of what you want and why you want it creates a touchstone you can use to stay on track towards achieving your goals – even when things get hard.

2. Cut through denial and self-delusion and face reality

Most of us are masters at self-deception, seeing ourselves and the world around us as we wish things were rather than as they really are. One of the most important things you can do to improve your business and your quality of life is to peel back that denial and delusion and face reality.

This means looking that things you may be actively avoiding – like the truth of your numbers, the repercussions of your behaviors, and the areas where your skills are weak. When you work with a coach, you benefit from open, honest, and confidential discussions. Together, we eliminate denial and delusion so that we can clearly see the issues and the underlying driving forces.

It can take courage to do this, but the result can be game-changing. When you are clear and in touch with reality, you can make better decisions and move forward faster.

3. Create an orderly plan to achieve what you want

Once you have clarity about what you want – and an honest assessment of where you are NOW – the final step is to create a plan to get there. I believe that having order is critical to achieving your goals and having a good quality of life.

As humans, we crave order and certainty in our lives. Consider the experience of walking into a messy room vs walking into a 5-star hotel room. Everything in the hotel room is clean and in its place. It’s orderly. An orderly environment is less distracting. We relax. We think better.

Planning is simply creating order in pursuit of your goals: a series of steps between where you are now and where you want to go. Like a clean hotel room, a plan removes distractions, allows you to relax, and helps you think better.

When you have clarity in all three of these areas, you’ve taken a giant step towards a better business and higher quality of life.

Now all that stands between you and the success you desire is to take action on your plan. Would you like some help with that?

If you’re ready to go after your goals with courage and honesty, I may be able to help you get there faster. As your coach, I can:

  1. Help you get clear about what you want and how to get it

  2. Hold you accountable to the goals you set for yourself

  3. Share wisdom and insights from my own experiences – so that you don’t have to make the same mistakes I did
